"We had no idea that a lifelong journey was about to begin when we first brought our son to meet with Lee in January 2015. At nine years old, our son was struggling with some anger and attention issues and a good friend referred me to Real Life Christian Counseling. At the time, I had no idea what a blessing that would be for our family! Now, almost ten years later, our son is about to graduate from high school and we couldn’t have gotten here without Lee’s ministry and God’s grace! The sessions were never like traditional counseling. Lee got to know our son and met him where he was (which usually involved ping pong, video games, and/or food). "I believe when God is moving powerfully in a place, it is palatable. I felt this power from the first time I began seeking help for myself and my family at Higginbotham Ministries. Gaining an eternal perspective (2 Corinthians 4:18) more often than not is one skill that has served us well! My anxieties and fears that were trying to creep in were a huge problem. "I started going to see Lee for help in healing from the wounds inflicted by my husband’s addiction to pornography. I had suffered alone for two years and knew it was time to get help. Lee has been a wonderful counselor, friend, cheerleader, and believer in my husband and I. We have seen him together and separately for over a year now. Lee has helped us identify the roots of our problems and emotions and directed us back to Jesus Christ every time. For me, Lee has helped me reclaim my identity in Jesus Christ. One afternoon when I was watching my daughter having fun with her friends at a local trampoline park, I realized that I wasn’t experiencing joy of seeing her so happy. I had been experiencing a great deal of sadness and fearfulness in the last couple of months. While I sat there watching my daughter play I decided to google “Christian counseling” in Lubbock. I decided to make an appointment with Lee. I knew I definitely wanted to be counseled from a Christian perspective. In the first couple of weeks I learned a great deal about my temperament and learned that I wasn’t getting my needs met in my social life. The most incredible discovery was that I wasn’t alone in the way I felt, and I felt the weight of condemnation fall off over the course of my counseling with Lee. My sessions with Lee didn’t consist of me just telling him my issues, however they were a time of mutual sharing. He would provide examples of his life where he could relate to me and that always put my mind at ease. I believe the Lord led me to Real Life Christian Counseling. There is no other explanation. HE knew I needed to talk to a person who knows about “real life” situations. I can feel the anointing the Lord has over Real Life Christian Counseling. The way I know this was that every time I opened the gate that leads to his office, I immediately sensed abundant light and peace.

And that has been my experience with Lee - so encouraging. I worked with Lee regarding complicated family issues and then have worked with him on issues in my own life - I am making progress! And I love how God uses Lee to help restore clarity, help remember simple and critical truths of the Gospel (Jesus really does love me and like me!) and keep applying them tirelessly and joyfully to real life. That's a great title for his office, Real Life Christian counseling - that's exactly what I've experienced with Lee. I heard a quote recently about preparing a child for the path or preparing the path for the child. The first is about empowering the person to deal with real life, the second is about trying to change/manipulate circumstances in life "i.e. the path" to make it easier to navigate for the child/person.

He helped me in a desperate time and got me back to the person I know I should be. A few years ago I had come to a place in my life where I really needed someone to talk to. After a series of difficulties, I had exhausted many efforts to feeling better. These included medication, natural remedies and even acupuncture. I was in a desperate situation and needed to feel better. I reached out to a pastor where I occasionally attend church and asked if he would be able to recommend someone and he recommended Lee.
I remember at first how doubtful I was that I would ever feel better again since I had been suffering from severe depression for several months without any relief. It was affecting every area of my life. I travel a lot and was unable to do regular sessions. However, after the first visit Lee helped me to finally see a glimpse of hope. I immediately noticed how patient he was and not surprised at how I was feeling. That gave me a sense of confidence and peace that I hadn’t felt in awhile.
I own a very successful business and have a beautiful loving wife and 3 children so I recall how selfish I felt that I could not find any joy in anything. I am a man of faith and have attended church my entire life so I knew that God could heal me if he wanted to. But, after such a long time feeling so desperately low, I began to doubt that God wanted to heal me. I began to think I was receiving some sort of punishment. I had lost hope.
Looking back I can now see how far I’ve come since my first appointment with Lee. Even though I felt great after each session my old thought patterns resumed almost immediately after each session and no matter how hard I tried, I didn’t realize that I would have to endure another 3 years of suffering. I appreciate that Lee did not promise immediate results and thankful for his patience with me!
I believe in my heart that God used Lee to help me realize His unconditional love for me and to help me develop a new way of thinking and that healing isn’t always immediate.
